Christine Chito’s photo, entitled “Light…As a Feather,” was selected for the poster and post card advertisement of the 2024 “The Magic of Light” Exhibit. Christine, who lives on a small lake in Rhode Island, says “One of my favorite places to sit is on our dock over the water, where I try to catch photos of various bird life.” One September morning, while relaxing on the dock, Christine saw several duck feathers strewn about the surface of the water, so she began taking photos as they gently floated by. “I didn’t really get too excited until I noticed, after uploading the images, that there was a cool indentation in both ends of the feather in the water, and the reflection under the feather was really interesting as well!”

Christine, who takes photos every day, says “My approach to photography is always with the anticipation of the day’s possibilities, never knowing if today I will capture something stunning in something mundane or if something will present itself to me randomly. I try to be patient with failed shots and think of how the next time I might get a better result. I love to play with camera settings and see what happens. I learn something new each time I shoot.”

Christine’s favorite genre of photography is birds, but she also enjoys taking photos of insects as well as dancers. She says, “My biggest goal is to become a really good wildlife photographer and to get better at landscape photography.” To reach her landscape goal, Christine observes photos taken by other photographers, such as Ansel Adams, whom she says was the first photographer that made her say “Wow!” She states “His photos were so incredible that I had to seek out more information about his work and life.”
Christine attributes her aunt, Bonnie Gamache, as being her most important inspiration. Christine says, “I have had the privilege of seeing her career progress and blossom through the years. She is thorough and knowledgeable in her craft, and oh what an eye she has! She has been kind in mentoring my journey into DSLR photography and the Magic of Light show.” Aunt Bonnie has two images in “The Magic of Light Show.”
